Beanies

Posted 21/05/10

'Beanies' or 'snow hats' depending on where you come from are a great way to build contrast in a photo of babies wearing no clothes...

Big Bubbles no Troubles

Posted 04/09/09

When I found bubble making goodies at a recent photo shoot I thought "why didn't I think of that earlier?" well from now on it will be something I take to every job as a fool proof means of getting great shots. The bubbles provide a candid feel in the studio setup.

By chance Lucy's face and hand and the bubble above the hand are all in alignment and all in focus

Little Henry wanted the camera to himself when it came to photographing brother and sister together

and so we gave Henry his own chance infront of the lens

The Bright Slide of Life

Posted 04/09/09

Sometimes when you do a photo shoot at the kid's park you risk having your subject completely devoted to one particular attraction. In this case little Tristan couldnt get enough of the slippery slide!

BUT whatever makes them smile makes a PHOTO!

Macro Photography

Posted 31/07/09

Macro photography is the art  of using a special camera lens to get close to a subject.

Newborn babies are the perfect subject for photographing with a 'macro lens'.

Newborn Baby Faces

A collage of your newborn's facial expressions is one way to capture the many different faces in one frame!

Little Hands & Feet

Posted 31/07/09

Without wanting to discredit mums of the world past and present, new born babies are small!

However it won't be long before they grow. 3-5 cm's per month and anywhere from 150-400 grams per week!

A photograph of their hands and feet is a great way to remember just how small you once were!

Grandma & Grandpa Wedding Anniversary

Posted 31/07/09

A Hundreds 'n' Thousands photo shoot is a great gift idea for all those Grandma and Grandpa's celebrating a lifetime of marriage!

H&T recently photographed the families of three siblings whose parents were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. It was a busy afternoon all photographed at Grandma and Grandpa's home and culminating in a portrait of the three families!

Here are some of the photos from the day

Maternity Photographs - 8 Months vs. 9 Months

Posted 25/06/09

If you are looking to get a few photos to remember this extra special time of both your lives then deciding on when to do it can be tricky.

The longer you wait the greater the belly shape but also the increased chance of giving birth and missing out. Here we show you 8 Months vs. 9 Months with the same mum to be.

When photographing at 8 months you don't have as much shape to work with.

Hand shapes and Photoshop filters (charcoal above) can add an artistic effect

At 9 months (above) you can really start to define the shape and be more abstract in your approach.

Amelia @ 8 Months

Posted 18/06/09

We have photographed our first bub under the Hundreds n Thousands banner!

Amelia was the most patient of '8 monthers' any photographer could ask for. We did eight outfit changes and somewhere inbetween she took a snooze while we ate an amazing omlette, thanks dad!

"You've got 2 minutes and then I gotta pee!"

"I really think this hat  brings out my blue eyes"

"I never cry, I always smile quietly to myself"

"I'm getting tired and you know what comes next"

"These wardrobe changes are something else!"

"Funny stuff Dad"

"How do you like my magic carpet?"

Welcome to Hundreds 'n' Thousands

Posted 11/05/09

Hello everyone and welcome to the new website for Pearse Photography that specialises in KIDS!

I was once told by a photographer never to work with animals or kids, I now do both!

I was also told by my 8th grade English teacher never to use the word 'kid' to describe a child because 'kids' were baby goats. So sorry if I refer to your child as a baby goat!

With so many friends and family having "kids" in the last few years I have been fortunate enough to photograph a lot of these little guys and girls making a mockery of the often too serious "adult world".

In photographing them I have come to love a lot in and around tempers, tantrums and tears; I love their candidness and their lack of self consciousness (even when being followed by a camera), their inquisitiveness with "everyday things", their lack of script in response to new discoveries, their taking of life at face value and their ability to be in the "now". As an adult it is refreshing and sobering reminder of how much fun can be had if we put some of those grown up worries to the side.

Theirs is a place we can revisit, by spending a bit of time with them, allowing ourselves to be a bit silly, a bit crazy and maybe just a bit interested!

I look forward to continuing the rediscovery of this world of theirs with my camera and collecting images that will souvenir their time as a kid so that when they do morph into adulthood they will still have a reminder of those good old days!

Not blessed with the best memory - I have trouble remembering last week let alone last year or the last decade - so I find a lot of value in photos from those times that help me remember.  If that sounds too cheesy a slogan let me know otherwise I think I will run with it!
